If you were to ask any local where to see Flamenco in Seville, their answer would undoubtedly be the Barrio of Triana. Located on the west bank of the river Guadalquivir, it has always been the heart of Flamenco in Seville as the gypsy population was historically forced to live outside of the main city walls.
Affectionately known by some residents as “the Independent Republic of Triana” there are some who live there who claim to have never set foot across the river into the main town. The Barrio has a personality all of it's own – a little ramshackle in places, but all the more authentic because of it. You can happily lose yourself over the afternoon, visiting the inviting food market or one of the few remaining ceramic tile shops for which Triana was once famous.
And if you're looking for authentic Flamenco, you are in luck. Unlike the Tablao shows in the town centre, the Flamenco shows performed by up and coming artists in the myriad of bars throughout the barrio are well attended by locals as well as tourists, providing a much more authentic atmosphere – you are likely to enjoy the audience interaction with the performers almost as much as the performance itself!
The problem is, where to go to see the best Flamenco? Shows vary every night, and there are occasional pop-up performances in the bars throughout the maze of cobbled alleys which only the locals know about...
Luckily we have just the solution! Why not join our local guide on a walking tour of Triana followed by an evening at a hand-picked Flamenco show? Book your spot now and enjoy the best that the Barrio of Flamenco has to offer.
